Problem
Drivers and workshops needed a clearer path from Bluetooth OBD-II adapters to actionable vehicle health — without wrestling raw diagnostic streams or single-platform tools that fall short on iOS and Android.
The product had to handle real adapter quirks, multiple OBD modes, garage management, AI-assisted explanations, and production concerns like subscriptions, localisation, and store-ready performance.
Role
Cross-platform mobile engineering and backend platform work — Bluetooth/OBD pipelines, diagnostics UX, APIs, subscriptions, localisation, and release hardening.
Timeline Android diagnostics MVP and backend first, then garage/performance modules, COMI assistance, subscriptions, localisation, and iOS Bluetooth hardening.
Approach
Emirates ITS engineered OhCar as a Flutter client for Android and iOS with a FastAPI and PostgreSQL backend. Users connect Bluetooth-compatible OhCar / Mastertronic adapters, retrieve diagnostic trouble codes, and work with supported modes including Mode 03, Mode 07, and Mode 0A — presented as readable vehicle health instead of opaque hex dumps.
We delivered garage profiles, performance tests, I/M readiness, live-data paths, COMI AI assistance for fault and symptom questions, multilingual UX (~14 languages), subscription / in-app purchase flows, and production hardening — with Android stabilised for release and focused work on iOS Bluetooth compatibility.
Result
OhCar gives drivers an intelligent diagnostics companion — connect an OBD adapter, understand fault codes, manage vehicles, and ask COMI for guidance — built as a production Flutter + FastAPI platform by Emirates ITS.
